Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 6: A three-day national executive meeting of the Communist Party of India will begin here from Saturday, Dec 6 to take stock of the current situation in the wake of the Mumbai terror strikes.

Besides taking stock of the situation, the party will also hold talks on the role of the Left and secular forces in the coming parliament elections to take on the Congress and BJP.

Issues like the global recession and its fallout on the country, and retrenchment will also be considered during the meeting.

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan, who is here to attend the All-India Conference of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), is expected to attend the meeting.

According to party sources, the meeting is being held ahead of the national council session.

Left finalises response to UPA-Left panel on nuclear deal

New Delhi, Sep 13: The Left parties today finalised their response to be submitted to the UPA-Left committee on the Indo- US Nuclear deal, outlining their concerns regarding the impact of the Hyde Act, weapons programme and energy security. ''We held a joint meeting this evening to decide on our response. We have prepared the points of our reply to the government on three broad issue, the impact of the Hyde Act on our independent foreign policy, the weapons programme and energy.....
