'India sought only 3 suspects, not 20'

India Most Wanted
Islamabad, Dec 5: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's Adviser on Interior Affairs, Rehman Malik, has that India has only sought 3 terrorist suspects and not 20 as has been reported by the media.

He also said that the list submitted by the Indian Government does not include the name of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, the head of the Lashkar-e-Toiba, which is being accused of masterminding last week's Mumbai terror attacks  that claimed nearly 200 lives and caused injuries to nearly 300. "They gave us three names, two of them are Indian nationals - Dawood Ibrahim and Tiger Memon - and the third is Masood Azar," Malik told reporters here on Thursday.

He said the two Indian nationals were not on Pakistani soil, and India should provide evidence against Azar so that the "law can take its own course". He also denied India had asked Pakistan in writing for a visit of the Inter-Services Intelligence chief.

"Pakistan will extend unconditional co-operation to India to bring culprits to justice. A criminal is a criminal whether he is from Pakistan, India or from anywhere else in the world. But we need concrete evidence against those mentioned by India and the law of the land will take its course," The Daily Times quoted Malik, as saying.

To a question regarding the alleged role of Lashkar-e-Toiba in terrorism in India, Malik said the organisation and its activities had already been banned in Pakistan.

HURIYAT PARTY KASHMIR 06 Dec 2008 12:12 am
Kashmir’s veteran separatist leader Maulana Abbas Ansari is under house arrest. Security forces, and intelligence agencies keep a watch on this senior leader at his Nawa Kadal residence in Srinagar. Khaleej Times Chief Correspondent Ravi S Jha reaches Maulana Ansari for an exclusive interview confronting threats of ‘fidayeen’ attacks Friday –the day when Srinagar was placed under intense clampdown. This former chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) talked in detail about Kashmir issue vis-à-vis India and Pakistan peace process that has caved in following ghastly Mumbai terror attacks. Maulana Ansari talks of his priorities, and blames both India and Pakistan for messing up Kashmir issue yet again. Excerpts: Based on what New Delhi says are key evidences, India has accused Pakistan of sponsoring terrorism. How do you see Mumbai terror attacks affecting relations between India and Pakistan? You see, the relations between India and Pakistan have always been complicated. It doesn’t matter who is involved in Mumbai attacks. I know for sure that those responsible for these ghastly terror attacks are not keen to see these two nuclear armed neighbours come together to resolve the issue of Kashmir. The Mumbai attackers could be anyone: those who can’t see us live in peace. The people involved in these incidents could not be the friends of humanity and deserved severe punishment. Nearly half of Kashmir is under Pakistan’s control; the rest is under India. What do you think would be the consequence of India and Pakistan going for a conflict, where core issue is Kashmir. Does Mumbai attacks have a Kashmir link? We have to underline the fact that the problem of Kashmir is not bilateral between the people of the state and India or Pakistan. Pakistan is very much a party to the problem. Not just because it controls one third of Kashmir, but because Kashmir’s problem is mentioned in the United Nations resolution, Shimla agreement. India has been talking to Pakista
