Tripura Congress threatens stir against Left govt

Agartala, Nov 21: The Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress Committee has threatened to launch an agitation against the alleged rampant corruption and misrule of the Left Front government in Tripura.

Former party president and MLA Birajit Sinha on Friday, Nov 21 said youth and student wings of the party had held a joint convention for fulfilment of the demands and decided to go for general strike in the state.

''There is sufficient evidence that former Tripura Food Minister Sahid Choudhury has close relation with Mamun Mian, resident of Bangladesh, who was arrested in April by West Bengal police from Agartala. Sahid Choudhury had been forced to resign from the sixth Left Front Ministry for this reason but now the state government is trying to protect him,'' Mr Sinha stated.

He underlined that three cases had been filed against Mamun in Tripura and West Bengal, as initial investigation established that Mamun had links with international terrorist organisations like HuJI.

''Corruption and nepotism among the Left Front leaders has affected the state's development adversely despite huge fund flow from the Centre and the Manik Sarkar government has failed in all aspects,'' Mr Sinha added.
