Bangladeshi miscreants kills Indian farmer in Tripura

Agartala, Nov 21: Suspected Bangladeshi miscreants killed a 70-year-old Indian sugarcane cultivator and snatched his sugarcane-processing apparatus from Muharichar area along the border in South Tripura, police said.

Sukhen Nandi was staying here in a makeshift camp beside his sugarcane field along the border to prevent Bangladeshi miscreants, who had been taking away the produce from his field, they added. According to report, his family members on Thursday, Nov 20 found his body, which bore injury marks, in the camp near the sugarcane field and all the machinery was missing.

The family members later informed the BSF and police. Both the BSF and police launched separate investigations into the incident.

The villagers expressed anger over the alleged inaction of the BSF and complained that the personnel had failed to provide security to the people and property in the bordering locations of the state and as a result, paddy, sugarcanes and vegetables were being taken away by the miscreants.

A few markets, temples, roads and other assets, huge agricultural land and about 8,000 families in Tripura had been fenced out following wire fencing along the international border while the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) had objected to the fencing at more than 100 places, saying that the fence within 150 yards was in violation of the agreement.
