AP: Left parties protest against Congress

Tirupati, Nov 21: Exposing the Congress government's failure to fulfill its poll promises and demanding distribution of land, ration cards and pension to people, the Left parties, CPI and CPM, observed a marathon dharna for 48-hours in front of the revenue divisional offices, district collectorate office and Tahsildar offices in Chittoor district.

As many 100 Left parties workers, led by CPI and CPM district secretaries Harinadh Reddy and K Murali, took out a procession yesterday on the main streets to the RDO office in Tirupati where they started their 48-hour dharna.

Addressing the gathering, the leaders alleged the district administration that it has failed to protect the government lands from encroachment in the temple town and is trying to suppress the agitation of the poor demanding land.

The Congress government in the state and UPA government at the Centre have completely failed to control price hike, they alleged.

As part of their agitation, a large number of Left party activists observed mass picketing in front of collectorate officer Chittoor and Tahsildar office at Srikalahasti where mild tension prevailed when the agitators attacked the office and damaged furniture.
