Arunachal: 37 houses gutted at Ziro plateau

Itanagar, Nov 21: Altogether 37 houses were gutted at Ziro plateau under Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh in two separate fire incidents. Official sources here on Friday, Nov 20 said the first accident occurred at Bulla Village of Ziro plateau on Nov 18 where 17 houses were destroyed.

On Nov 19, 20 other houses were reduced to ashes at Hong village in the same area following a massive inferno which damaged property worth over a crore rupees.

Two fire tenders toiled for three hours to douse the fire at Hong that started at around 2030 hours. There was no report of any casualty. However, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the sources said.

The district administration disbursed immeidate relief to the fire victims in the form of cash and CGI sheets, which was distributed by local MLA Nani Ribia yesterday.

The MLA informed the affected villagers that Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu had assured financial help after getting the report of quantum of losses from the district administration.

Meanwhile, reconstruction work of houses destroyed by the fire is almost complete at Bulla and is in full swing at Hong.

The ZPM Tilling Dolley, an NGO, donated blankets, sugar and tea leaf packets to the affected families.

The district hospital and National Hydro-electric Power Corporation (NHPC) pressed its medical teams into service for providing first aid services in both the affected villages, the sources added.
