Chennai, Nov 20: J Jayalalithaa, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo on Wed, Nov 19 served a legal notice to Dravida Munetra Kazhakam (DMK) stalwart and Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, after the later held the AIADMK and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) responsible for brutal violence at the Ambedkar Law College in Chennai.
Jaya on Monday, Nov 17 had threatened to file a defamation suit against Karunanidhi after his party accused her party, AIADMK of instigating violence. She said that Karunanidhi is not fit for the post of a Chief Minister and that he is playing dirty politics.
In a statement Jayalalithaa said, "A judicial inquiry has been ordered into the November 12 incident. So will Karunanidhi's comments not influence the Inquiry Commission to give a report, which reflected his opinion?" She made it clear that if CM did not apologise throug media within 24 hours of this notice, she will sue him for the damages.
On Sunday, Nov 16, Karunanidhi had accused AIADMK of instigating the campus fighting at Ambedjar Law College in which four students were injured. He said, "It appears as if the opposition has incited the students to indulge in violence so as to seek my resignation. Had the police entered the campus, the headlines in the papers would have been different against police." However, later he clarified that he had made that comment in jest.
