'Army's morale unaffected by Purohit episode'

Nashik, Nov 15: Lt Gen K R Rao, Commandant, School of Artillery, today said the morale of the Army was not affected due to the alleged involvement of serving Armyman Lt Col Prasad Purohit in the September 29 Malegaon blast.

''Presence of one rotten fruit does not mean that the whole tree is rotten and I am unhappy with the fact that people do not think so.

Army is a replica of the society. Even in families we find such children. The crime has not been established yet and I think it will not be. Though if it is proved, necessary disciplinary action will be taken. But Army will not be affected by this,'' Mr Rao said in an interaction with mediapersons, after the passing out Parade of the tenth batch of Combat Aviators from the Combat Army Aviation Training School (CATS) here.

Speaking on the role of the Combat Army Aviators in the era of Nuclear warfare, Mr Rao said, ''Our national policy is that we are not to strike first. If required we will give a befitting answer and meet the role defined for us.'' About the expansion, he said there are 14 Army mission squadrons now and would go up to 21 till 2017.
