Vijender Singh felicitated in Madurai

Madurai, Oct 20: How to get your school in the front page of local newpaper? Easy, just call an Oympic bronze medalist boxer Vijender Singh. That is what Velammal Residential School in Madurai did.


Other than Vijender Sungh, Syed Kirmani and Roger Binny were also present. Adressing over 2,000-odd students, he opined sports only can make people smart and fit. Lauding him for his achievement, Madurai Collector SS Jawahar expressed hope that he would bag the gold in the London Olympics in 2012.

Under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam, sports facilities were being provided to schools in all villages. Lauding the Velammal Education Trust for inviting luminaries from various disciplines, Kirmani said they would inspire students to achieve.

Vijender loses to Uzbekistan's Atoev in semifinals

New Delhi, Sep 12: Losing to Uzbekistan's Abbos Atoev in the semifinals of World Badminton Championship, Indian pugilist Vijender Singh failed to upgrade the bronze medal he ascertained for the country.However, he still remains the first Indian boxer to win India's maiden medal at the World Championship by entering the semifinals."Obviously, I am a disappointed. But I am glad that I managed to break the jinx for India," said the 23-year-old.OneIndia News.....
