Mini general polls in 5 states: Election Commission

New Delhi, Oct 14: N Gopalswamy, the Chief Election Commissioner of India on Tuesday, Oct 14 announced the schedule for the Assembly polls in five states. Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram are the five states. Polls in Chhattisgarh will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will cover 39 constituencies and it will go to poll on November 14. The second phase, which will have 30 constituencies, will go to poll on November 20.

The election date for Madhya Pradesh is November 25, while Mizoram and Delhi will go to poll on Novemeber 29. Following which, Rajasthan will go to poll on Decemeber 4. The counting for all the five states will be held on December 8. No announcement was made by three-member poll panel about the schedule for Jammu Kashmir due to difference in opinion among the panel members.

On Friday, Oct 10 Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta had briefed the Election Commision on availability of security forces for conducting elections in the poll-bound states.

Lok Sabha Polls likely in April-May: CEC

New Delhi, Dec 8: N Gopalaswamy, the Chief Election Commissioner of India has said that General Elections are likely to be held between the mid April and mid May. There were reports that the Lok Sabha elections may be preponed after the vote counting results of the five states, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattiagarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Mizoram are out. The results will be out by Monday, Dec 8 evening. The voting began on Nov 14 in Chhattisgarh and ended on Dec.....
