More than Rs 10 crore as NABARD loan and Rs 2.28 crore as state share have been earmarked for improving irrigation facilities in the district during this financial year.
As many as 8 irrigation schemes have been completed in the district creating irrigation potential of 110 hectars. Presently irrigation facilities are being provided to over 15000 acres of land in Kargil district.
He said under Minor Irrigation sector, Rs 1 crore would be spent for improving irrigation facilities in the Leh district, whereas over Rs 1 crore has been utilised for execution of various schemes in the District till date.
Presently 43 km-long prestigious Igoo-Phey irrigation canal is under construction in the district which is expected to provide irrigation facilities to about 4000 acres of land. So far, Rs 60 lakh has been spent on the execution work on this canal.
Lakjungthang irrigation 'Khul' has been commissioned during this year. The Khul has provided irrigation facilities to 825 acres of land. The district already enjoys irrigation facilities to 9911 hectars of land.
