Islamabad, Oct 10: Pakistan President, Asif Ali Zardari says that the ongoing US economic crisis will have no effect on Pakistan. Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the country will not go bankrupt. “Pakistan is not going to bankrupt. It is not a limited company. We are negotiating with the international community to address the situation," Zardari said at the launch of Rs 34 billion Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Zardari said he understood there was a sense of depression among people due to the current economic situation, and gave assurances that the government was taking effective measures to address the situation. He also said that the government was not afraid of terrorists and it would wipe out this 'cancer" from society.

“We are not afraid of terrorists. The government, the people and myself are all steadfast in our resolve to wipe out this cancer from society," the Daily Times quoted Zardari, as saying. He said strong nations handle crisis with courage, and urged people to have faith in the government, which he said was capable of rising to all challenges. He said the Pakistan People"s Party"s stance on the Kashmir issue was unchanged.

Zardari called an in-camera joint session of parliament on the country"s security situation a positive step towards the strengthening of democracy. He also praised ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan for fighting extremism and terrorism.
