Mysore: Abhinav, Vijendra, Sushil to be honoured today

Mysore, Oct 4: To mark the Dasara festivities, Karnataka Government will be honouring Olympic Gold medalist Abhinav Bindra, Bronze medalists Vijender Singh and Sushil Kumar before Mysore Palace in a function on Saturday, Oct 4. While Abhinav would be presented with a cheque of Rs 10 lakh, Vijender and Sushil would get a purse of Rs 5 lakh each. Abhinav would declare open a three-day State-level Dasara Sports for Men and Women.

Adventure sports like hill climbing, cycle-race, powerlifting , best physique competitions, besides half-marathon would be held on Sunday, Oct 5. Seven sports persons from the state, who represented the country in the Beijing Olympics, would be honoured on the occasion.

New Delhi, Dec 25: Olympic gold medalist Abinav Bindra has plans to set up 50 schools in next five years across the India. The main focus of the school will be sports. The school would be called Abhinav Bindra Ace Public School (ABAPS)."We are trying to set up ABAPS across the country. Our aim is to give a unique balance between sports and studies. Sports would be an integral part of our extra curricular activities," Abhinav sporting trust managing.....

At 17 years, Abhinav Bindra of Chandigarh, will be one of the youngest shooters in the Sydney Olympics. The young man who qualified as a `wild card' entrant is on Cloud Nine these days. ``I am excited and at the same time there is pressure to perform well," says Bindra.He has just completed the board examination and is looking forward to the big test in the Olympics. Bindra has been slogging away at the National camp, putting close to nine hours.....
