Karnataka children upto 7th std to enjoy free bus pass

Bangalore, Sep 9: With school drop outs on a surge the state, in order to attract more children to Schools, the Karnataka Government on Tuesday, Sep 9 announced free Bus pass facility for school children studying upto Seventh Standard, Minister for Transport R Ashok said. Talking to newspersons on Monday, Sep 8 he said with this facility, children can travel to School anywhere in the State. The Minister said the main objective was to increase the number of children going to school. At present only 35 per cent of the children were enrolled in schools. He said the Government would reduce the bus fare by 25 per cent for girl students, studying upto 10th standard.

Mr Ashok said 25 per cent discount on bus fares for senior citizens, as announced in the Budget for 2008-09, would be implemented within four days.
He said the fee charged for reservation has been reduced from Rs 15 per ticket upto Rs 200 has been reduced to Rs five and for ticket above Rs 200 was reduced to Rs 10. KSRTC, however, would be incurring a loss of Rs 3.04 crore.

Cauvery: Complete shutdown of K'taka on Feb 12

Bangalore, Feb 10: Karnataka will be completely shutdown on Feb 12 from 6 am to 6pm to support statewide bandh called by Kannada organisations against the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal verdict.
