Mishap averted at IGI airport in New Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 8: On Sunday, Sep 7 a major mishap was averted at Indira Gandhi International airport when a Kingfisher Airlines flight to Lucknow with 94 passengers on board aborted take off on noticing some 'obstacle' on the runway. The obstacle was a police jeep which was deployed as part of the security arrangements for the for the arrival of Pratibha Patil, the President of India.

The incident took place at 7.30 am when the Kingfisher flight (IT 653) was about to begin its take-off roll when the flight commander noticed orange and red lights at the end of the runway. The airlines officials said that the commander followed the normal protocol of aborting the take off and taxied the plane back to the bay in view of the safety of the passengers. There was also another flight in line which also decided against taking off after this incident.

New Delhi, Dec 29: Heavy fog in Delhi has disrupted the morning flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, trains services and road traffic on Monday, Dec 29. 35 flights have been delayed, three cancelled and two diverted to Mumbai.
