Mah Governor releases 'Vichar Aur Nirvichar'

Mumbai, Aug 27 (UNI) Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir said love, peace and harmony are the essence of true religion.

He was speaking after releasing a book, ''Vichar Aur Nirvichar'' authored by Acharya Mahapragya, Spiritual Head of the Jain Terapanth, at Raj Bhavan.

If every person follows his or her own religion, there will be perfect peace in society, he said while paying rich tributes to Jainism.

Dr Jamir said religion had laid great emphasis on truth and non-violence and Jain community should come forward to play the role of a peace-maker in today's strife-ridden society.

He said Acharya Mahapragya has devoted his life to the cause of establishing peace and communal harmony and therefore his book will inspire readers to lead a meaningful life.

S'pore awards doctorate to Dr Kalam

Singapore, Aug 27: Former Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam has been awarded an honourary Doctor of Engineering degree from Singapore's Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The NTU said the honourary degree has been conferred on Dr Kalam in recognition of his life-long achievements in serving India, his international reputation in Science and Technology, and his role in improving India-Singapore relations. Environmentalists concerned over Adjutant storks' fate
