Viral disease outbreak in Karnal district

Karnal, Aug 26 (UNI) A viral-like disease blamed on poor sanitation conditions is plaguing this district which ironically has recommended 140-odd villages for Nirmal village award.

The Civil hospital here is being thronged by the patients despite claims of complete control on the ''mysterious disease'' by the district administration.

At least 20 people have reportedly succumbed to the disease in the past 45 days, while as many as 60 patients have been admitted to the Civil hospital with complaints of viral and malaria-like symptoms since yesterday, raising the total number of such patients in this monsoon season to 185.

The villages of Halwana, Modipur, Nagal, Rasalpur Kalan and adjoining villages are the worst-hit.

Sarpanch of Nagal village in Indri block said many patients were in serious condition. Many suffering from the disease complained of stomachache, headache, high fever, vomiting and dizziness.

CMO Nirmal Saini, however, claimed that the deaths were caused due to senile decay, drinking habits and taking treatment from quacks when taken ill.

Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi 'working on new CD of love songs'

London, Aug 26 : Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's flamboyant prime minister, is working on a new CD of love songs that he hopes to complete by this Christmas. Berlusconi is collaborating with Neopolitan singer Mariano Apicella, to produce the album, which has 14 songs. K'taka govt to rejuvenate 33,000 tanks

Bangalore, Aug 26 (UNI) Karnataka Minor Irrigation Minister Govind Karjol today said that the department had planned to prepare a master plan for the development of 33,000 tanks in the state. Police nabbed man on cheating charges

Chennai, Aug 26: Airport police on Tuesday, Aug 26 arrested a man on cheating charges under section 420 at Chennai International Airport last night. Police said the 38-year-old passenger Anil Kumar, who had been absconding in Hyderabad, was nabbed while he was trying to board an Air France flight to Paris. Mr Kumar was wanted under criminal charges for various criminal offences in Hyderabad.
