Ugrappa demands govt to take up drought relief works

Bangalore, Aug 26 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Council V S Ugrappa said the BJP government had failed to tackle the drought situation prevailing in parts of the state.

Speaking to reporters he said the Yeddyurappa-led government was busy in its heinous 'Operation Lotus' to lure legislators from opposition parties and was not bothered about the welfare of the people.

It had also failed to implement the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme effectively, he said.

He demanded the government to take up the relief works by immediately providing of drinking water and fodder in the areas affected by drought and floods. Otherwise the Congress party would take the issue before the people.

Mah govt may reduce fuel sales tax

Mumbai, Aug 26: The Aviation industry may get some relief from the increased fuel prices as the Maharashtra government is considering reduction in the fuel sales tax. Shahbaz remanded into 10-day police custody

Jaipur, Aug 26 (UNI) SIMI activist Shahbaz Hussain, arrested by the Rajathan and the Uttar Pradesh Police in Lucknow in connection with the May 13 Jaipur serial blasts, has been remanded in police custody till September 5. Rain aftermath: diseases hit UP, Centre worries

Lucknow, Aug 26: Vector-borne and infectious diseases like Japanese Encephalitis (JE), Brain Fever, Malaria, Jaundice and Diarrhoea have claimed lives of over 15 people overnight in Uttar Pradesh.
