UGC team to visit Bharathidasan University

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 26 (UNI) A six-member expert committee of University Grants Commission (UGC) will visit Bharathidasan University for three days from August 27, to assess the Eleventh Plan requirements, according to the University sources.

The team would also visit all departments and central facilities to take stock of the progress made by the University with the Tenth Plan funding.

Under the Tenth Plan, the University received Rs three crore and fifty lakh as developmental assistance from the UGC, in addition to the funding for projects of Central agencies like Department of Science and Technology and Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the sources said.

The grants received in the tenth plan under various heads have been completely utilised, the sources said adding, with the Central Government enhancing budgetary allocation for higher education substantially, the expectations of universities had also increased several-fold.

The University has prepared an exhaustive list of requirements under various heads, including library, sports facilities and hostels for assessment by the visiting team, sources added.
