Two drown in rural pond

Nadia, Aug 26 (UNI) Teenager Anuradha's effort to save her next door neighbour from drowning was ended in tragic as she met her watery grave along with a nine-year-old boy at Kalipur village under Chakda police station in this district today.

Police said Suman Kashibashi drowned along with Anuradha Sarkar in a pond near their home as the latter wanted to rescue the boy.

As Anuradha was taking bath, she saw her next door neighbour was gasping after being separated from an empty plastic bottle. As she reached to rescue the boy, Suman held her tight and both drowned.

They were from the same institution, Kalipur High school. While Anuradha was in class seven, Suman was in clas III.

Centre to raise allocation for national highways in Manipur

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) The Centre will raise the allocation of funds for the improvement of national highways in Manipur from Rs 13 crore to Rs 40 crore during 2008-09. This assurance was given to Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh when he called on Highways Minister T R Baalu here today.
