Trinamool to organise road blockade on Aug 29

Singur, Aug 26 (UNI) Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today said her party would organise a road blockade programme across West Bengal from 1500 to 1700 hrs on August 29 to demand the return of 400 acres of land from Tata's small car project here to the farmers.

Meanwhile, National Highway-Two, blocked by the agitating Trinamool supporters, had virtually cut off Kolkata and Howrah as well as both the North and South 24-Parganas from Burdwan, Birbhum and Bankura.

Thousands of vehicles got stranded on Delhi Road, which was the only alternative to the arterial road.

Blaming the Left-front government, Ms Banerjee said had the government considered returning the 400 acres of land, the situation would not have arisen.

'' The CPI(M)'s wrong policy on Singur is responsible for the traffic jam. Our movement will continue, '' she said.

Reacting to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's statement that no land would be returned, Ms Banerjee said his letter yesterday bore an ample testimony to his ''negative attitude''.

'' A wrong message is doing rounds that I have refused the Chief Minister's talk offer. We are always for having discussions with the state government at any place and at any time, '' she said.
