Kendrapada, Aug 26(UNI) Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC was promulgated in the entire Patamundai town following the VHP activists and members of a minority community clashed in Deobanda village during yesterday's dawn-to-dusk bandh.
At least five people, including three activists of Sangh Parivar, were injured and some vehicles torched.
District Magistrate Sisirkanta Panda said the situation in the town was tense forcing the administration to impose prohibitory orders as a precautionary measures.
Reinforcement has been deployed in the area and a unit of Rapid Action Force was deployed in Pattamundai NAC. The RPF also conducted a flag march today in Kendrapara and Pattamundai.
At least 10 platoons of police, including 7 platoons of OSAP and 3 platoons of Armed Police were deployed in the district. All the educational institutions in the area were declared closed following the mounting tension in the area.
The police have registered nine cases, six of them in Pattmaundai and rest under Kendrapara police station, SDPO Jayadev Sarangi said .
