Sultry condition returns in Delhi, mercury rises to 34.5 Deg C

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) After a cool weather during the weekend, to sultry condition was back in Delhi today with the mercury rising to 34.5 degrees Celsius.

A high humidity level of 91 per cent, coupled with a sunny day led to rise in maximum temperature to 34.5 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal.

Earlier, in the morning, the high humidity led to the shooting up of minimum temperature to 28.5 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal.

Some relief could be in offing for Delhiites from the sultry weather with weathermen forecasting thundery development in some areas.

The Met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in the National Capital during the next 24 hours with thundery development in a few areas.

No need of panic buying, petrol bunks to work 24x7: Minister

Chennai, Aug 26 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today said petrol bunks in the state would function round-the-clock without any weekly holiday and asked people not to resort to panic buying of petrol and diesel. State Food Minister E V Velu clarified the position a day after the Tamil Nadu Petroleum Dealers Association declared that they would close down petrol bunks on Sundays and restrict the working hours from 0600 to 2200 hrs with effect from.....

Aurobindo Society wants probe into murder

Kozhikode, Aug 26 (UNI) Sri Aurobindo Service Society (SASS) today demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the August 23 murder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Swami Laxmanand Saraswati in Orissa. Condemning the murder, the SASS, in a release here, said Swamiji 'obstructed forceful conversion and transportation of children to orphanages and seminaries in South India' thus developing enmity with large number of non-governmental organisations and foreign funding agencies in the Eastern.....

Call for intervention in land struggle

Pathanamthitta, Kerala, Aug 26 (UNI) National Land Reforms Council Member P V Rajagopal today called for national-level intervention to find an amicable settlement to the 13-month-old land struggle at Chengara in this district. Talking to reporters here, he said discussions with Chengara Solidarity helped evolve concrete agitational methods to bring into focus the issue of land struggle. Mr Rajagopal said detailed discussions were held with Mr Laha Gopalan, President of Sadhu Jana Vimochana Samyuktha.....
