Singur incidents unfortunate : Jindal

Kolkata, Aug 26 (UNI) Assocham president Sajjan Jindal today said the incidents at Singur were unfortunate, but he was not perturbed.

'' It is unfortunate and not good for West Bengal. I hope a solution to the problem will be found soon. I am not perturbed, '' Mr Jindal, also the vice-president and Managing Director of JSW Steel, told reporters on the sidelines of an Assocham programme.

He said the JSW Steel's proposed integrated steel project at Salboni in West Midnapore district was going ahead and its foundation would be laid in November next.

To a question on Tata group Chairman Ratan Tata's threat to pull out the small car project from Singur, Mr Jindal said, '' He must be frustrated for which he might have made the comment. '' '' He made investments and it should be very painful for him to see the developments in Singur, '' he said.

The proposed steel plant of the Jindals is scheduled to be operational by 2011-12. The initial capacity is three million ton involving an investment of Rs 10,000 crore.

The company had already acquired 4,800 acre for the plant.

To a question, he said industry should not come up on fertile land, but farmers would have to make some sacrifices.
