Simmering discontent over nomination of Sharma as BPCC president

Patna, Aug 26 (UNI) A section of the Congress today expressed their concern over the nomination of Anil Kumar Sharma as the president of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee(BPCC) saying he was not competent to protect the interest of the party in the state.

Leader of the legislature party of Congress in Bihar Legislative Council Mahachandra Prasad Singh told reporters here that a delegation of senior leaders of the party had called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi few days back and apprised her about the resentment of the workers over the nomination of Mr Sharma as the president of BPCC.

''We are surprised and pained over the choice of Mr Sharma by the party high command for the BPCC president,'' Mr Singh said adding the senior leaders had expressed their feeling to Ms Gandhi who gave them a patient hearing.

''We are awaiting the decision of the party high command on our requests,'' he said and added that future course of the action would be decided once the party high command takes a decision in this regard.

Mr Singh also expressed his concern over the damage by the spate of floods in north Bihar and said he had urged Ms Gandhi to make an aerial survey of the flood affected areas and take initiative for economic package to Bihar to meet the challenges of floods in the state.

Among those who were present on the occasion included party MLA Khurshid alias Firoz Alam and Azmi Bari,former president of the minority cell of the state Congress.

Congress sets-up election committee in UP

Lucknow, Aug 26 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh Congress today constituted a 34-member election committee and nominated 80 people as in-charge at parliamentary seats in the state.
