Punjab and Sind Bank, SAI Lucknow in inter-academies tourney semis

Mumbai, Aug 26 (UNI) Punjab and Sind Bank Hockey Academy (New Delhi) scored a facile win over Sprindale Hockey Academy (Amritsar) 5-2 to book its semi-final berth in the under-19 inter-academies hockey tourney at the Mahindra stadium here today.

In another quarter-final, SAI (Lucknow) got a walkover over Ashish Ballal Hockey Academy to enter the semifinals.

In the match between Punjab and Sind Bank Academy and Springdale Hockey Academy, the former took the lead in the very fourth minute with Ajay Kumar converting an indirect penalty corner.

Springdale, however, put up a strong resistance to their more fancied opponents as the teams went into half time with Punjab and Sind Bank leading by the fourth minute goal.

The second half saw Punjab and Sind Bank swell their lead with Lakhwinder Singh converting another indirect penalty corner in the 41st minute and then eight minutes later Ranjodh Singh fired a beautiful field goal to make it 3-0.

Ranjodh Singh completed his brace in the 60th minute and then Jasveer Singh converted another indirectly taken penalty corner to make it 5-0 in the 65th minute.

Springdale got two goals back in the last five minutes through Rupinder Pal Singh, but it was too little too late as Punjab and Sind Bank moved into the semifinals with a 5-2 victory.
