People oppose land acquisition for airport expansion

Imphal, Aug 26 (UNI) People today strongly opposed the proposed expansion of Tulihal airport here fearing their eviction from the area.

The expansion move will affect people in Malom, Ningomthong and Mongsangei as they had given large areas of land for the expansion, JAC sources said.

With the government planning to introduce night landing facility, it will require more land, putting extra pressure upon them, sources added.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the acquisition of land for the expansion of airport had talks with Transport Minister L Jayantakumar and government officials but said it will wait for the return of the chief minister, O Ibobi Singh from New Delhi to take the decision on the issue.
