Northeast, Bengal, Bihar to receive heavy rains next 4-5 days

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) Northeastern States, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Bihar are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rains during next four-five days, the India Meteorological Department said today.

There are also indications of good rainfall activity over extreme south Peninsula, particularly over Tamil Nadu and Kerala, from tomorrow for the next two-three days.

However, the meteorological analysis and numerical weather prediction models suggest subdued rainfall over northwest and central India during the next five-seven days.

From June 1 to August 24, as many as 21 sub-divisions had normal rainfall, nine excess and six deficient.

For the country as a whole, the actual rainfall was 662.8 mm during the period, with northeast receiving 1,016.8 mm, central India 698.4 mm, northwest 545.7 mm and south Peninsula 497.6 mm.

Currently, western end of the monsoon trough lies close to the foothills of the Himalayas. There is a feeble upper air cyclonic circulation over south Orissa and neighbourhood, the Earth Science Ministry citing Met data said.
