MSEZ to be commissioned by 2010-11: Prasad

Mangalore, Aug 26 (UNI) The construction work on the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ), expected to commence during October this year, will be commissioned by 2010-11, MSEZ Managing Director I S N Prasad said today.

Launching the website of MSEZ here, he said the company had acquired 1171.8 acres of land for the project and acquisition for another 2131.11 acres was on.

For rehabilitation and resettlement colony, the company had already acquired 110 acres of land and another 410 acres would be acquired soon.

To commence the project, the evacuation process had already been started, he added.

The company had got the Consents For Establishment (CFE) from Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) for the project, he said.

Environmental clearance had also been obtained for the colony phase one, phase two, phase three and phase four. The Ministry of Commerce (MOC) had issued notification for sector specific SEZ and the Ministry for Environment and Forest (MoEF) had given its clearance for 1,800 acres of land, he said.

A total of 3,985 acres was required for the general purpose multi-product SEZ, he said, adding, the company was currently notified for sector specific SEZ (petroleum and petrochemicals).

The proposed units coming in the MSEZ, included an Aromatic Complex by ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (ONGCMPL), a Strategic Crude Oil Storage Facility by Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited (ISPRL) and a MRPL refinery expansion unit, he added.

Beed, Maharashtra, Aug 26 (UNI) Member of Beed panchayat samiti Sarjerao Tandle, accused of firing six rounds during a meeting of the Beed Municipal Council, was remanded to five days of police custody by a local court today. Beed police yesterday arrested Tandle, near Ashti here, in connection with an FIR lodged in Shivaji Nagar police station on August 19, for firing six rounds in the municipal council meeting, following a clash with municipal council.....

Create awareness among people about garbage conversion: CM

Panaji, Aug 26 (UNI) Deploring the mindset of people to oppose location of garbage treatment plants, Chief Minister Digamber Kamat called for raising awareness among masses on the need for tackling the garbage menace by cooperating with the authorities. ''Create awareness among the people that conversion of garbage into compost is the only solution to get rid of the major garbage problem in the state,'' he observed, while addressing a meeting at the Agnel Technical Education.....
