MCD road to be named after Olympic Bronze winner Sushil Kumar

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) A major road of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be named after Sushil Kumar, who won a bronze medal in wrestling at the Beijing Olympics, Acting Mayor of Delhi and Chairman of the Sports Promotion Committee Divya Jaiswal said today.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Jaiswal said a road in the city would be named 'Wrestler Sushil Kumar Road' so that future generations could learn a lesson from him.

''Winning of a bronze medal by Sushil Kumar in Beijing Olympics has become a matter of pride and emulation for students of Municipal Primary Schools and glory and pride for teachers since he was a student of MCD Primary School Baprola situated in Najafgarh Zone,''Mr Jaiswal said.

He said Beijing Olympics Gold Medal winner Abhinav Bindra and Bronze Medal winners Vijender Kumar and Sushil Kumar would be introduced to the students studying in Municipal Primary Schools.

A public function would be organised by the MCD to accord civic reception to them and students of Municipal Primary Schools would be specially invited.

Mr Jaiswal announced that the Sports Promotion Committee of the MCD in coordination with the Education Committee would make concerted efforts to create awareness amongst students towards sports, especially of Indian origin.

The acting Mayor also disclosed that the MCD was considering a project to construct a stadium in a rural area which would comprise a boxingng, ring wrestler akhaara, cycle track and football ground.

The project is expected to cost Rs 5 crore.

Within two years of completion of this project, the MCD would handover the stadium to any Sports Federation for running and its upkeep as well as maintenance.

Haryana: Swasthya Bima Yojna extended to 4 more districts

MSEZ to be commissioned by 2010-11: Prasad
