Lift curfew: CPI(M) to J

Srinagar, Aug 26 (UNI) The Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) today demanded the Jammu and Kashmir Government to immediately lift the curfew restrictions in the Kashmir valley.

In a statement, secretary of the CPI(M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, invited the attention of the State Government towards the sufferings of the people in general and the children, the sick, the old and the infirm, the daily wage earners in particular, due to the continuous round the clock curfew imposed without any advance information since Sunday midnight.

''Given the fact that small kids are starving for want of milk, the sick and the indisposed can't get any medicines and are running risk to their lives, many paramedics and doctors are unable to attend to their duties in the absence of any permission (curfew passes) to move and hence, the in-patients in different hospitals are the worst-affected, the daily wagers and their families are starving, I urge the State Government to immediately lift the curfew'', he demanded.

Tarigami lamented the treatment meted out to the mediapersons on Sunday and even yesterday while they were performing their professional duties and hoped that the administration would hold the enquiry into the incidents of beating and harassing of local mediapersons.

He urged the State Government to allow the local media to perform its professional duty and not harass it unnecessarily.

Tarigami expressed concern over the supply position of various essential commodities and their stock position, which is highly unsatisfactory and that people in the far-flung areas are starving for want of different types of food items.

He urged the State administration to take all the necessary steps to ensure availability and supply of essential commodities without any delay.
