K'taka Udyog Mitra Executive Officer arrested for taking bribe

Bangalore, Aug 26 (UNI) Karnataka Udyog Mitra Executive Officer Md Iqbal was arrested yesterday on the charges of accepting bribe for showing official favour.

According to a Lokayukta release here today, the accused demanded Rs 30,000 as bribe from Mr Himanshu of Raichur for clearance of a project to build an Agro based industry in his native. The project was cleared at the Single Window clearance meeting and recommended four acres of land for the project.

However, Iqbal demanded bribe and he was caught red hand while accepting Rs 25,000 in a trap laid by the Lokayukta on getting a complaint from Mr Himanshu.

Orissa violence: Catholic institutions to 'close down' on Aug 29

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) Catholic educational institutions all over the country would observe a 'close down' this Friday to express solidarity with ''suffering brothers and sisters'' in Orissa affected by the ''calibrated malicious campaign'' against Christians by unruly organisations of the state. MHA asks UP govt to recommend CBI probe in Kanpur blast
