Hydrology studies to focus on Inflow Forecasting During Extremes

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) A National Symposium on Hydrology, with the focal theme of 'Inflow Forecasting During Extremes' will be organised by The National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee, here on 28-29th August 2008.

The symposium is sponsored by the Indian National Committee on Hydrology (INCOH) and co-sponsored by IIT, Delhi, and CWC, Delhi.

Minister of State for Water Resources Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav will inaugurate the symposium, which will be attended by the leading water experts from all over the country.

NIH actively has participated in technology transfer activities, from its inception and positioned itself as the premier organisation as the centre for excellence for Research and Development in the area of Hydrology in the country. The NIH also carried research studies covering almost all areas of Hydrology and has established contacts with national and international organisations of repute.

Headquartered at Roorkee (Uttarakhand), the NIH has four regional centres at Belgaum, Jammu, Kakinada and Sagar and two centres of Floods Studies at Guwahati and Patna.

Rain aftermath: diseases hit UP, Centre worries

Lucknow, Aug 26: Vector-borne and infectious diseases like Japanese Encephalitis (JE), Brain Fever, Malaria, Jaundice and Diarrhoea have claimed lives of over 15 people overnight in Uttar Pradesh. Tribals protest against hydel projects in HP

Shimla, Aug 26: A delegation of 15 gram panchayats from the tribal district of Kinnaur today handed over a memorandum to Himachal Pradesh Governor Prabha Rau in protest against the construction of hydel projects in the tribal areas. The delegation submitted the 41-page memorandum protesting against the dozen projects under construction on the Satluj starting from China border to 150 km along the river basin threatening the fragile environment of the tribal district.
