HP Governor urges promoting child welfare activities

Shimla, Aug 26: Himachal Pradesh Governor Parbha Rau has asked the state government to submit a pilot project to the Central Government for promoting child welfare activities in the state.

She was presiding over the 25th Annual General Meeting of Himachal Pradesh State Child Welfare Council here yesterday.

The Governor emphasised the need to launch mass membership enrollment drive to give momentum to the social welfare activities in the state so that maximum members were associated with such activities.

She said non-official members should try to raise funds for carrying out the activities of Council more effectively and also invited their suggestions for making the functioning of Council more beneficial.

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, assuring all possible financial assistance for welfare of children, said the government would not allow any constraint of funds for the welfare of children.

The Chief Minister, who chaired the meeting, said Rs 1.82 crore had been spent under various state sponsored schemes, besides Rs 2.91 crore under Centrally sponsored schemes under various child welfare activities during 2007-08.

He said during the first quarter of current financial year, about Rs 58 lakh had been spent by the state government on child welfare activities under grant-in-aid, besides Rs 88 lakhs under Centrally sponsored schemes as grant-in-aid.

Lenovo to pump in $10 mn to set up plant in HP
