Hot and humid weather prevail in Patna

Patna, Aug 26 (UNI) Weather in the state capital and its adjoining areas remained unchanged today with no reports of rains from anywhere.

The local met office recorded the maximum temperature at 34.4 degree Celsius and the minimum at 28.4 degree celsius.

The weatherman predicted partly cloudy sky with the possibility of rain or thunder showers during the next 24 hours.

TN: Alleged seizure of rice condemned

Puducherry, Aug 26: Taking strong exception to the alleged seizure of 134 bags of double boiled rice, sent to Kerala, by the Kallakuruchi Tahasildar ''under the guise of Tamil Nadu ration rice,'' the Puducherry Modern Rice Mill Owners Associations on tuesday, Aug 26 threatened to go on an indefinite strike if steps were not taken to release the rice. Addressing a press conference here, Association President R Sivaraj alleged that for the past 50 years, double boiled rice had been sold to Kerala.....

Prisoners to be shifted to safer areas due to flood in Bihar

Patna, Aug 26 (UNI) More than 550 inmates in the flood-affected north Bihar would be shifted to the Saharsa Correctional Home today after the prisoners' cells in the Madhepura jail were submerged in flood waters. Official sources quoted IG, Prison, Sandweep Poundarik as saying that the decision to shift the prisoners to a safer place was taken last night, after surging flood waters posed a serious threat to the inmates of Madhepura jail by partially inundating.....

PM assures IITs to look into controversial faculty reservation issue

Guwahati, Aug 26 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the government would look into the demands of the IITs to exempt them from the purview of reservation in the selection process of their faculty members. ''I have understood the gravity of the problem.
