Historical site 'Ambarkhana' collapse due to heavy rain

Bijapur, Aug 26 (UNI) Following heavy rains that lashed the city last night, 'Ambarkhana', a 500-year-old historical monument, collapsed killing two persons living in a shed built next to it.

Police said big bounders used to build the monument came rolling down amidst heavy rains last night crushing to death Ashok Sidramappa Dhotaragavi(42) and his daughter Sudha (14). They were fast asleep in their shed made of tin sheets next to the structure.

Assistant Commissioner Y S Patil and Tahasildar S S Nagathan visited the spot early this morning took stock of the situation. A solatium of Rs two lakhs was announced by the official to the kind of the two persons who died in the incident.

Golgummaz police have registered the case.

Goa spends Rs 3.12 crore in FY 07-08 on state farms

Panaji, Aug 26 (UNI) Goa had spent Rs 3.12 crore for ten state-run farms in fiscal year 2007-08 as against Rs 2.90 crore in the previous fiscal, according to Agriculture Minister Viswajeet Rane. In a written reply to a question of Dayanand Mandrekar (BJP), the minister told the state Legislative Assembly today that it was being planned to maintain these running farms in such a way that they can be used as demonstration farms to impart.....

Landslides hit life in Nagaland

Kohima, Aug 26 (UNI) Frequent landslides blocked the main roads to Tuensang and Kiophire in Nagaland for several months resulting in soaring of prices for want of transport. Congress candidate of the Pungro Kiphire Assembly constituency R L Akamba told UNI here today that the condition of the roads had become worst. London, Aug 26 : Hollywood actress Dame Helen Mirren is fine with the release of the uncensored DVD of her most controversial flick 'Caligula'.
