Heroin worth Rs 50 lakh seized, three held

Chennai, Aug 26 (UNI) The Anti-Narcotic Task Force has arrested three people and seized 500 gm heroin worth Rs 50 lakh in the international market from them.

Acting on reliable information, sleuths of the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau arrested three people -- Marimuthu, John Paul and Jesu Antony Vinoth in Tuticorin yesterday and seized the contraband.

During interrogation, the trio admitted that they were transporting heroin, which they had received from one Aldrin in Ramanathapuram.

According to an official release here, the three were arrested and remanded to judicial custody and efforts were on to arrest Aldrin.

Mr Narinderpal Singh, Additional Director General of Police, Crime, congratulated Mr K Venugopal, DSP and his team members for the commendable work, the release added.

India offers to strengthen Bhutan's democratic institutions

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) Vice-President Hamid Ansari today offered to help Bhutan in strengthening its nascent democratic institutions. Mr Ansari, Chairman of Rajya Sabha, made the offer when a 13-member Bhutanese parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Lyonpo Jigme Tshultim met him here. Mr Tshultim said Bhutan being the youngest and smallest democracy need to learn a lot from the world's largest democracy. He invited Mr Ansari to visit the Himalayan state. Sultry condition returns in Delhi, mercury rises to 34.5 Deg C

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) After a cool weather during the weekend, to sultry condition was back in Delhi today with the mercury rising to 34.5 degrees Celsius. A high humidity level of 91 per cent, coupled with a sunny day led to rise in maximum temperature to 34.5 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal. Earlier, in the morning, the high humidity led to the shooting up of minimum temperature to 28.5 degrees Celsius, three degrees above.....

Jammu witnesses sporadic violence, mass rally tomorrow

Jammu, Aug 26 (UNI) The winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, entering the 35th day of complete shutdown, today witnessed sporadic incidents of violence as protestors clashed with the security forces in the city and its outskirts. The Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) is all set to organise a mass protest rally here tomorrow in which thousands of people from the city and remote areas of different districts are likely to participate to lodge.....
