HC admits appeal against Dalmiya

Kolkata, Aug 26 (UNI) A divisional bench of Calcutta High Court today admitted an appeal against PILCOM convenor Jagmohan Dalmiya alleging that he did not furnish return of the proceeds of the tournament before Income Tax department.

Income Tax authorities moved the High Court after the Tax Tribunal rejected its petition against Dalmiya and ten players who participated in the tournament.

The case comes before the Calcutta High Court as office of PILCOM was in the city.

India, Pakistan and Srilanka were joint convenors of the tournament held in 1996. The tournament was held in India and 17 matches were played.

The divisional bench, headed by Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh and Justice Shankar Mitra, however, rejected the appeal against ten players, including Shane warne, Arvind De Silva, Richi Richardson, Mark Waugh and Sanat Jaysuriya.

Income tax authorities alleged that these cricketers did not submit the tax for their income in the tournament.

The case will come up for hearing after four weeks.

When asbed about his reaction, Mr Dalmiya, now president of Cricket Association of Bengal, said that he did not receive any notice from the court as yet.
