Haryana to sell 24 lakh quintal seeds to farmers

Chandigarh, Aug 26 (UNI) The Haryana Seeds Development Corporation (HSDC) has set a target of selling over 24.33 lakh quintals of certified seeds to the farmers during Rabi 2008-09 as against over 19.97 lakh quintals of seeds sold during Rabi 2007-08.

Stating this here today, Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha said the Corporation had ensured timely availability of certified seeds at the door steps of the farmers through its strong network of sale counters and outlets of institutional agencies, such as-IFFCO, KRIBHCO, Mini Banks, HAFED, HLRDC and HAIC.

He said the Corporation had a strong distribution network of 73 regular sale counters up to the Tehsil and Block level in the state.

In addition to these regular sale counters, the Corporation also opened temporary sale counters in the State on need basis.

Besides seeds, it also provided other agricultural inputs, such as - weedicides/ pesticides/ insecticides/ fungicides and spray pumps to the farmers through its sale outlets, he added.

Dhumal launches Home Stay Scheme

Central Tax Pool are not distributed properly: N K Singh

Patna, Aug 26 (UNI)Rajya Sabha MP and former Planning Commission member N K Singh today expressed concern over the non-distribution of Central Tax pool among the states, as recommended by the Finance Commission. Addressing a seminar on ''Growth and Fiscal Prudence:Challenges before the 13th Commission''here, Mr Singh said the recommended 30.5 per cent share of states in Central Tax pool had never been implemented by the Centre.
