Haryana to give scholarship to BC students

Chandigarh, Aug 26 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced to launch a scholarship scheme for the Backward Classes (Category 'A') on the birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on November 14, which is celebrated as Children's Day.

About 1.5 lakh students would be benefited under scheme.

Mr Hooda said the students of Backward Classes-A had also been included in the monthly scholarship scheme announced for the students of below poverty line and scheduled castes.

Under this scheme, the girl students studying from class 1 to 5 would be given a monthly scholarship of Rs 150 and boys Rs 75 and the girl students from class 6 to 8 would be given Rs 200 and boys Rs 100.

Similarly, the girl students studying from class 9 to 12 would be given a monthly scholarship of Rs 300 and boys Rs 150 and the girl students of Science stream would be given Rs 400 and boys Rs 200. The scheme would be implemented on the similar pattern as had been decided in case of the families belonging to Scheduled Castes.

Under the scheme boys and girls belonging to Backward Classes (Category 'A') who are studying in government colleges would be given one time book allowance of Rs 2000 per year and a monthly stipend of Rs 750.

The state government was already implementing the scheme for the students belonging to Scheduled Castes families under which eight lakh students are benefiting.

Gangsters gunned down in Bihar

Bagaha, Aug 26 (UNI) A dreaded gangster and one of his associates were killed in an encounter with police at Naurangia police station area in West Champaran district today. Deputy Superintendent of Police Kamleshawar Paswan said acting on a tip-off, a team of Bihar police raided a hideout of the dacoits under the Naurangia police station. 5 arrested for stealing telecom materials

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 26 (UNI)Police arrested five people for stealing telephone posts, and other materials from the telecom department at Thuvarangkurichi, near here last night. The arrested were identified as Krishnan (24) Govindaraj (22) , Chinnappan (30),Sankar (25) and Mookan Karuppaiah (28). All the five were moving suspiciously, at Thottiampatti village in auto, when the police intercepted them. During interrogation, they admitted that they were involved in stealing of telecom department's material for quite some time.....
