Bangalore, Aug 26 (UNI) Genzyme Corp, a global leader in biotechnology and Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV), a not-for-profit virtual Research and Development (R&D) organization today announced a new collaboration with India's Advinus Therapeutics Ltd.

The collaboration was aimed at developing new, improved treatments for specific patient groups most at risk for malaria, an often-fatal infectious disease of developing countries, particularly affecting pregnant women and infants.

"Malaria kills between one and two million people annually, with the majority of victims being children under five and pregnant women," said Dr Chris Hentschel, President and Chief Executive Officer of MMV.

"New antimalarial agents are urgently needed to stop this unacceptable loss of life, with eradication as our long-term objective. The pipeline of new molecules that are effective against malaria must be made more robust so that we can develop the next generation of powerful treatments.", he added.

Bangalore based Advinus is a TATA-promoted life sciences research and development company with extensive expertise in pharmaceutical R&D.

Gujarat HC orders Asaram to compensate violence victims

Ahmedabad, Aug 26 (UNI) Spiritual guru Asaram Bapu received another jolt as the Gujarat High Court today directed that a case be registered against his ashram here regarding the alleged attacks by his disciples on journalists on July 18. The Court has also ordered Asaram Bapu to pay compensation to the people who were injured in the city's Motera area clash, when journalists were assaulted and their cameras broken. Fake currency seized in Allahabad; 2 held

Allahabad, Aug 26 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, the city police today nabbed two people with counterfeit currency worth Rs 4.33 lakh in Muthhiganj area. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lalji Shukla said that on a tip-off, Muthhiganj police station officer Rana Rajesh Kumar Singh cordoned off the area near Gaughat Bridge along with his team and nabbed two people.
