Four persons awarded lifers for murdering man

Mumbai, Aug 26 (UNI) A local court today awarded life imprisonment to four people for murdering a man, who was allegedly having an affair with one of the accused's wife.

According to the prosecution, four persons--Popat Pisal, Sandeep Kate, Sanjay Samge and Ravsaheb Pisal-- had murdered 23-year-old Ravindar Pisal, who was allegedly having illicit relationship with Ravsaheb's wife, Manisha Pisal.

Ravsaheb used to live in suburban Mulund area while his wife was taking care of their agricultural land in Purandhar district in Pune.

The victim was also living in the same village and used to allegedly visit Manisha frequently. When Ravsaheb learnt about this, he brought his wife to Mumbai.

However, the victim also came to Mumbai where he worked in Byculla, prosecution said.

Agitated over this, Ravsaheb paid Rs 3,000 to the other accused and conspired to murder Ravindar. Accordingly, the four kidnapped the victim on March 27, 2002 and took him to Ujaloni village in Raigad district.

The four then smashed Ravindar's head with a stone and threw his dead body off a hill there.

Ravindar's body was recovered by the police later and the four accused were arrested.

The court had examined seven witnesses in this regard who had given evidences against the accused persons and also relied on the medical and other evidences.

The Court while convicting them also imposed a fine of Rs 3000 each.

Three minors drown in river

Jamshedpur, Aug 26 (UNI) Three children drowned while bathing in a river this evening. Police said the deceased, aged between nine and 13 years, were residents of Lohar line area. ONGC signs agreement to acquire Imperial Energy

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) Country's biggest oil producer, ONGC today said it has signed a 2.6 billion dollar deal to buy the UK-based Imperial Energy in a bid to secure supplies for its booming economy.
