Farmer commits suicide due to crop failure

Hassan, Karnataka, Aug 26 (UNI) A 55-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Solagudu village in Arakalagudu Taluk today, reportedly due to crop failure.

Police said that Kenche Gowda, who owned two acres of land, had taken Rs 70,000 loan from State Bank of Mysore and Rs one lakh from private money lenders for raising potato crop.

As the crop was completely destroyed in the recent heavy rains, he was unable to repay the loan and took the extreme step.

During the last one week, three farmers have committed suicide in the district due to crop failure.

Beed police yesterday arrested Tandle, near Ashti here, in connection with an FIR lodged in Shivaji Nagar police station on August 19, for firing six rounds in the municipal council meeting, following a clash with municipal council.....

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) About 308 carriers laden with essentials and fuel arrived in Kashmir Valley in the last 24 hours. As per the information received from the Jammu and Kashmir Government, the supplies included 78 lorry loads of rice, 19 vehicles carrying flour, two with sheep, 18 with sugar, four with fresh fruits and 161 trucks with other commodities.
