Elections to 4 Municipal Councils, one Nagar Panchayat on Sept 20

Chandigarh, Aug 25 (UNI) The Punjab Government today announced general elections to four Municipal Councils and one Nagar panchayat in the state on September 20 next.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of the Department of Local Government said that in compliance with the orders of the High Court and in exercise of powers vested by sub-section (1) of Section 13-A of Punjab Municipal Act 1911, the general elections to five urban local bodies namely Moga, Badhni Kalan (Nagar Panchayat) in Faridkot district, Kharar (S A S Nagar), Muktsar and Sujanpur (Gurdaspur) would be held on September 20, 2008.

Goa govt congratulates Indian winners of Beijing Olympics

Panaji, Aug 26 (UNI) Goa Legislative Assembly today unanimously resolved to congratulate Sushil Kumar and Vijender Singh Kumar for winning bronze medals in men's 66 kg freestyle wrestling and middle weight (75 kg) boxing events respectively, at the Beijing Olympics.
