Mumbai, Aug 26 (UNI) The Mahatma Gandhi Quarrel-Free Villages Scheme officials should identify strife-ridden villages in their jurisdiction and restore peace there, Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said today.
Mr Deshmukh was speaking during an official meeting at Mantralaya.
Deputy chief minister R R Patil, ministers Chandrakant Handore and Dr Gavit along with senior officials of Home, Rural welfare and other departments attended the meeting.
This is a second year of the scheme. Mr Deshmukh, while lauding Raigad and Latur districts for taking a lead in implementing the scheme, directed Amaravati and Aurangabad division officials to make efforts to successfully implement the scheme in their divisions.
The villages that have been declared Quarrel-Free last year should have a sign board indicating their status, to motivate them to maintain peace, he said.
