CPI condemns attack on Christians in Orissa

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 26 (UNI) Kerala CPI Secretary Veliyam Bharghavan today condemned the attack against the Christian minorities in Orissa, allegedly by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Sangh Parivar organisations.

In a statement here, he strongly ridiculed the attacks and said that the BJD-BJP government in Orissa miserably failed to protect the minorities and check the attacks against them.

Mr Bharghavan urged the Centre and the Orissa government to take necessary and effective measures to protect the life and assets of the Christians there and added that many women and children were still living in forests in fear.

He alleged, that this was not the first time that Sangh parivar organisations indulged in such attacks against the minorities in Orissa and added that similar attacks had taken place earlier also.

Female naxal nabbed in MP

Bhopal, Aug 26 (UNI) A female naxal carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 was arrested today in a forest adjoining Balaghat district's Mate village, Police Headquarters sources said. Nirmala Gond alias Samla alias Saguna Gond, an active member of the Malajkhand Dalam, joined the Dalam about ten years back along with her sister Kamla. Nirmala also served in the Paraswada Dalam and was then sent to Maharashtra's Gadchiroli where she was part of the Korchi Dalam......

Haryana to sell 24 lakh quintal seeds to farmers

Chandigarh, Aug 26 (UNI) The Haryana Seeds Development Corporation (HSDC) has set a target of selling over 24.33 lakh quintals of certified seeds to the farmers during Rabi 2008-09 as against over 19.97 lakh quintals of seeds sold during Rabi 2007-08. Stating this here today, Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha said the Corporation had ensured timely availability of certified seeds at the door steps of the farmers through its strong network of sale counters and outlets.....
