Clerk arrested for stealing Rs 1.5 lakh cash from bank

Chennai, Aug 26 (UNI) A clerk working in the Regional office of a private Bank was arrested on charges of stealing Rs 1.5 lakh cash from the bank in the city.

Acting on a complaint from the Bank, the Anna Salai police conducted inquiries before arresting the clerk, Arumugam, today.

Police said on August 19 the collection amount of Rs 1.14 crore was brought to the Regional office from Puducherry via Madurantakam and it was counted by the bank officials in shifts.

When the person-incharge of the cash, inspected it again on August 20, he found Rs 1.5 lakh to be missing.

He immediately filed a complaint with the Anna Salai police, who conducted inquiries and zeroed in on Arumugham.

As he gave contradictory replies, police questioned him extensively following which he spilled the beans.

Police recovered the cash from him and arrested him.

Arumugam, who had worked as a peon for ten years before his elevation as clerk, was remanded in judicial custody.

People oppose land acquisition for airport expansion
