Bomb hoax at IISc sends panic among people

Bangalore, Aug 26 (UNI) A bomb threat call created panic situation at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for some time as the threat turned out to be hoax after dog squad and bomb experts made a through search of Health Centre in the Institute today.

Police are now trying to trace the caller.

IISc was target for terror attack in December, 2005 when LeT terrorists had struck while a national symposium was on and shot at scientists and others killing a Delhi based Prof M C Puri and injuring four others.

Meanwhile, a mock drill conducted by the Disaster Management Cell to check the preparedness of the security and other agencies in the city put the peak hour traffic out of gear in the morning.

Exactly one month after the city witnessed serial blast that killed one woman and injured seven others, the Cell conducted a mock explosion and a huge column of smoke went up during the exercise at busy Malleshwaram.

Fire fighters and other agencies rushed to the spot to take up 'relief' work.

However this resulted in busy morning traffic getting badly disrupted and the result traffic jams at several places. Thousands of people were stranded at various places in the area for more than 90 minutes before the traffic began to move slowly.
