Army ensures smooth traffic along NH-1A in J

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) The Army has successfully maintained smooth vehicular traffic between Jammu region and valley, even during yesterday's 'bandh' and 'chakka jam' with over a thousand vehicles moving between the two regions.

A total of 694 vehicles moved from Jammu to Srinagar, while 391 vehicles moved from Srinagar to Jammu, according to the Defence Ministry here.

Most of the vehicles, over 75 per cent, comprised of trucks and oil tankers. Rest were light vehicles and passenger buses.

Even today, no disruption in traffic flow has been reported from anywhere in both the regions, it added.

Ex-bodyguard apologises to Rushdie

London, Aug 26 (UNI) A former bodyguard of Indian-born author Salman Rushdie has apologised for lying about the world-famous writer in a tell-all book. In a book entitled ''On Her Majesty's Service,'' Ronald Evans, a former London Metropolitan Police officer wrote about Rushdie's life. Evans and publisher John Blake Publishing Ltd today accepted in the London High Court that allegations in Evans' book about Rushdie's personal life were untrue. Evans had written that Rushdie sought to profit.....

Ugrappa demands govt to take up drought relief works

Bangalore, Aug 26 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Council V S Ugrappa said the BJP government had failed to tackle the drought situation prevailing in parts of the state.
