5 arrested for stealing telecom materials

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 26 (UNI)Police arrested five people for stealing telephone posts, and other materials from the telecom department at Thuvarangkurichi, near here last night.

The arrested were identified as Krishnan (24) Govindaraj (22) , Chinnappan (30),Sankar (25) and Mookan Karuppaiah (28). All the five were moving suspiciously, at Thottiampatti village in auto, when the police intercepted them.

During interrogation, they admitted that they were involved in stealing of telecom department's material for quite some time and they used to dispose them in different parts of the state.

Police seized the auto, used for committing the crime.

Later, they were arrested and remanded to judicial custody,police added.

Boy drowned in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 26 (UNI) A boy drowned in a river in the central Kashmir district of Budgam, official sources said today. They said a boy identified as Mohammad Ayub Parray drowned in Doodganga. 34 more people complain of blurred vision

Villupuram, Aug 26 (UNI) Even as 29 people were fighting to get back their vision at the Joseph Eye Hospital in Tiruchirapalli after cataract surgery, 34 more people, who also underwent the operation at the same hospital, were admitted to the Villupuram government hospital after they complained of blurred vision. The fresh victims were from Nainarpalayam village near Chinna Salem in Villupuram district and constituted the second group of people-screened by the Perambalur-based Joseph Eye.....

Farmers resist takeover of 100 acres by KSEZ

Kakinada, Aug 26 (UNI) A vain bid by the management of Kakinada Special Economic Zone (KSEZ) with police escort to take possession of 100 acres of paddy fields at Ramanakkapeta village in Uppada Kothapalli mandal was thwarted as farmers squatted on the edge of the road and threatened to commit suicide rather than surrendering their fertile lands. The agitating farmers picked up heated arguement with KSEZ chief project manager Wing commander Koteswerababu and prevented them.....
